Fit / Misfit
A sprint fits a specific situation.
The fit
- 01
You're the founder, and the decision is yours to make. Not a committee, not a mandate from a board. If you can't say yes alone, the week won't work.
- 02
The company is past the point where you can see all of it.Big enough that the answer isn't obvious, small enough that you're still the one who decides.
- 03
You've been stuck on this a while.Months, not weeks. Long enough to have tried the obvious things.
- 04
You want a decision, not options.I'll give you the reasoning and the case against, but I'll tell you what I'd do.
The misfit
- 01
You've already decided and want backup.I'll probably disagree with you in front of your team, and you'll have paid $65,000 to be annoyed.
- 02
You need someone to do the work, not decide it.That's a hire. I'll tell you what to hire for, but I'm not it.
- 03
The problem is a person, and everyone knows who.Sometimes true, and a week won't fix it.
- 04
You need buy-in more than you need an answer.Five days can produce a decision. It can't produce consensus in an organization that doesn't want one.
I’d rather lose the engagement on the scoping call than have you spend the money on the wrong week.
